The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™

The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA) is a program of the National Dance Education Organization, created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public and private schools in K-12 education, dance studios, cultural/community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary education. The NHSDA offers three levels of induction: The Junior Program for grades 6-8, The Secondary Program for grades 9-12, and The Collegiate Program for students in college or university dance programs. Establishing an NHSDA chapter in your school is one very important way that you can honor your students and help advance the field of dance education.

NHSDA at Dance Prodigy Studios

We are thrilled to announce that Dance Prodigy Studios is now a National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ Junior and Secondary Chapter! Pledges and inductees grades 6-12 will earn society points through dance and their community involvement, as well as maintaining high academic standards. Pledges will earn honor cords for their graduations and will be able to have the honor on all college applications. In an effort to give back to the community, we will be opening this up to ALL dancers in the area who meet the requirements. This is not solely for Studio B members. We are thrilled to be a part of the NHSDA Society.

Why should your dancer become a member?

  • Recognition of students and advisors for outstanding artistic and academic achievement.
  • Educational development opportunities
  • Networking with dance students and professionals
  • Leadership activities
  • Induction and other recognition ceremonies
  • Special awards presented to outstanding senior graduates
  • Outreach programs to the community
  • Scholarship Opportunities
  • Many more!

How can my dancer join?

  • Candidate must maintain and show proof of a 3.0 GPA
  • Junior Candidates (grades 6-8) must earn at least 15 points in order to maintain membership
  • Secondary Candidates (grades 9-12) must earn at least 30 points in order to maintain membership
  • Candidate must participate in at least 2 days of dance per week
  • Candidates must attend all necessary meetings

How long does it take a student to earn the appropriate number of points for induction?

On average it takes about one full year to earn enough points (30 points) for induction at the high school age level for a serious, dedicated dance student. A student who approaches dance on a more part-time basis may take up to two years to qualify for induction. For new chapters starting in the Fall, student dance activities from the summer before school started can count towards points.

How does a student apply for Induction?

Students are responsible for documenting all their activities that are worthy of points. Students can track their points using the Points Tracking Form available at, or using another method such as a spreadsheet, portfolio, or online system. Documentation must be submitted to the Chapter Sponsor by the requested deadline (to be determined by the sponsor). The student will then apply for induction at and following the directions on the “Find Your Chapter Page.” The student will enter their name (exactly as it is to appear on the certificates, with the desired spelling and capitalization), current grade level, and contact information. They will also create a username and password for the site.

What does it cost to be Inducted?

The Institutional Membership for the school is $185 (DPS pays for this) and must be renewed every year in order for the chapter to remain active. There is also a one-time induction fee of $8 per student payable upon induction from the student to the studio.  A student must pay the induction fee at each level of induction (ex: both for induction into the Junior Program in grade 7 and the Secondary program at grade 10).

The studio will then make one payment ($8 per student x # of students) either by mailing one check or paying online by credit card to the NHSDA.

Optional Items: The optional gold honor pin is $7 and the blue/white honor cord (for graduating students) is $15. If you wish to purchase one of these items please contact DPS after you have been inducted.

What do students receive when they are Inducted?

All students will receive official certificates of Induction printed and mailed to the school from the NDEO Home Office (this is included in the $8/student induction fee). There is an additional fee for the optional gold honor pins for Student Induction ($7 plus shipping) and blue/white Honor Cords* for graduating seniors($15 plus shipping).

*In cases where an inducted student is a member of an NHSDA chapter at dance studio or other program outside of a K-12 school, please be aware that some K-12 schools will not allow the graduating senior to wear the NHSDA honor cords at graduation since the honor was earned in a program outside of that K-12 school. In this case, parents and chapter sponsor of the inducted student can petition the (K12) school principal or administration for approval to wear the cords. This should be completed well in advance of the graduation date.

In The News & Reviews

"We have been at Dance Prodigy Studios for 3 years now. My girls love the studio and have learned so much from all the teachers. Both my girls danced for over 10 years at another studio that closed down when we came to Dance Prodigy Studio so they were by no means new to dance. However, what they have learned in the short time that they have been at DPS is amazing. All the teachers have not only influenced my girls in dance but also have been good role models for my teenage girls. I trust them completely with the teachers. I also would like to say that Mrs. Rachel does not only care about my girls, but she cares about the whole family. She has done so many wonderful things for our family and has touched our lives and our hearts in a profound way. I would highly recommend DPS to anyone who is looking for not only a great dance studio but also a family friendly place." -Kathy N., Review

"We are so proud to call Dance Prodigy our studio. Mrs. Rachel and her staff love my girls like their own. The are not only talented dancers themselves, they are dedicated to the growth and development of their students.
